Impurity profile on a peptide chromatogram
An impurity profile is the set of chromatographic peaks other than the main peak under a stated method. The area percent of the main peak is a summary of that profile, not a list of chemical names. A later peak is an impurity only in that separation sense. The report may or may not assign a structure to it.
Do not name an extra peak as oxidation, deletion, or a salt unless the PDF says so. Keep the method name with the figure. Background is in how peptide purity is measured and the chromatogram term. Research-use only.
Frequently asked questions
- Does a high area percent mean there were no other peaks?
- No. The percentage is the main peak's share of integrated area. Smaller peaks can still be present. Read the trace or the table the file includes.
- Should unnamed peaks be given a chemical name?
- No. Leave them as unnamed peaks with the retention information the report printed.
