Lyophilized peptides: freeze-dried format

Lyophilized peptides are synthetic peptides that have been freeze-dried into a dry solid. The process removes water so the sequence is less exposed to hydrolysis during storage and shipping. This page is a format note. The definition of a research peptide is on What are research peptides?.

What lyophilized means

Lyophilization, also called freeze-drying, typically has three laboratory steps:

• Freeze the peptide solution

• Sublimate ice under vacuum

• Dry further to reduce residual moisture

The result is a dry cake or powder. Identity and purity are still analytical questions. A dry cake is not, by itself, a Certificate of Analysis.

Why the catalog uses this format

Peptides in solution are more exposed to hydrolysis, oxidation, and microbial growth. A dry solid is the usual way a research supplier ships a sequence that must stay intact until a laboratory opens it. Advantages that matter for receiving are:

• Less free water, so hydrolysis is slower while the vial stays sealed

• A form that tolerates ordinary parcel temperature swings better than a liquid

• A fill the laboratory can document by mass and by the lot report

Those points are handling facts. They are not claims about an assay result.

What this page does not cover
