Endotoxin and LAL on a peptide COA
Endotoxin here means bacterial lipopolysaccharide, a cell-wall fragment that can be present even when a peptide peak looks clean. The common laboratory readout is the Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) assay, or a recombinant Factor C method that targets the same factor. Results are reported in endotoxin units, with a denominator the report should state, such as per milligram or per vial. A number without the denominator cannot be compared with another lot.
Many BlueNex Labs library rows include an endotoxin link. Some do not. If the row has no endotoxin file, the test was not published for that lot. Do not copy a GHK-Cu endotoxin line onto a different SKU. The reading note is endotoxin testing on a peptide COA.
Frequently asked questions
- Does every peptide Certificate of Analysis include LAL?
- No. Endotoxin is included on some published lots and omitted on others. The certificates library shows which test exists for the row you opened.
- Is endotoxin the same as an HPLC impurity?
- No. HPLC impurities are other peaks in the chromatogram. Endotoxin is a separate biological assay. A high area percent does not report endotoxin units.
