AICAR nucleoside laboratory note

AICAR Research Overview

AICAR is recorded here as 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleoside, a nucleoside used in AMPK hepatocyte papers. It is not a peptide, and the 50 mg fill is a separate catalog URL.

This page provides laboratory-focused information for AICAR. Content is intended for research use only and should be read with the published documentation and analytical data.

Research-use notice: This article is laboratory and educational information only. It is not medical or legal advice, and it does not include how-to-use instructions. BlueNex Labs materials are research-use only and are not intended for human or veterinary use. Research-use-only labeling is not a Health Canada authorization.

Publication status: Prepared for the BlueNex Labs Research Knowledge Centre. Literature and library notes checked September 24, 2026. Primary papers and the public COA library can change; verify the lot report in hand before an assay.

AICAR, on this catalog, is a research solid sold beside mitochondrial reagents. It is not a peptide. The chemical name is 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleoside. The shop URL is AICAR 50mg. This page exists so the fill is not mistaken for MOTS-c or SS-31. Price and stock stay on the listing.

Chemistry, not a sequence

There is no amino-acid string to print. A receiver who asks for a one-letter code is asking the wrong question. Identity for this lot is the analytical file for the nucleoside, not a peptide mass calculated from residues. The glossary still points at mitochondrial peptide because the catalog files AICAR on that route. The glossary says the nucleoside is not an open reading frame. This note repeats that distinction. Sequence and peptide bond are linked so the absence is explicit: those terms do not describe this container.

Corton, Gillespie, Hawley, and Hardie, in the European Journal of Biochemistry in 1995, incubated rat hepatocytes with AICAR and reported accumulation of the monophosphorylated derivative ZMP (PMID 7744080). They reported that ZMP mimicked activating effects of AMP on AMP-activated protein kinase in that cell system, and that fatty-acid and sterol synthesis fell in those incubations. Those are hepatocyte measurements. They are not a specification on the 50 mg fill, and this page does not copy the paper's concentrations.

The useful laboratory point is the name of the nucleoside and the name of the phosphorylated product the authors measured in that cell system. ZMP is not a second catalog SKU. A chromatogram of a peptide cannot be relabeled as an AICAR chromatogram because both were ordered for an energy-metabolism assay. If the PDF does not name the nucleoside, record the absence and hold the container.

Neighbours that are actually peptides

SS-31 is a tetrapeptide. MOTS-c is discussed on this site as a mitochondrial open-reading-frame peptide. Both have peptide masses. AICAR does not. The mechanism overview is mitochondrial peptides. Use it to see the peptide class, then come back here for the nucleoside. NAD+ is a redox cofactor on the same category route, with its own note. It is not AICAR either.

Analytical documentation

A catalog name is not an identity test for AICAR 50mg. Open how to read a peptide Certificate of Analysis and the purity-versus-mass note. The short version of the same check is the COA verification FAQ. Copy the task identifier from the Janoshik URL on verify.janoshik.com or janoshik.com, the sample name, the date, the mass, the purity figure and its method, and any endotoxin number with its unit. A photograph of a report is not the report. Cap colour and the labeled milligram size are lot-specific. A file for a different size does not document this container.

Chromatographic area percent and mass identity answer different questions. Read chromatogram, mass spectrum, purity versus identity, and molecular weight before you file one number as both answers. Salt form, when the PDF names trifluoroacetate or acetate, is a third line. The glossary entries are TFA salt and acetate salt. This catalog does not publish a house factor that converts a salt weight into a free-base figure. If the report is silent, leave the salt line blank. Net peptide content is recorded only when the PDF states it.

The library row for a published AICAR lot is AICAR 50mg in the certificates library. Match the sample name and the 50 mg size. A peptide purity percentage on a neighbouring vial is not an identity result for this nucleoside. Salt language on a peptide COA, such as trifluoroacetate, should not be copied onto this file unless the AICAR PDF itself names a counter-ion.

The receiving log for this material is ordinary and short. Write the product name, the labeled amount, the cap colour if one is printed, the lot number or batch code, the receipt date, the storage location, the report URL, and whether the sample name matched the container in hand. Quarantine the container when the seal is broken, the solid looks wet, the label does not match the packing list, or the report link will not open. The Burnaby desk can look up an order number. It cannot reconstruct identity from a container that has already been relabeled by hand.

Handling and Canada fulfilment

AICAR is not a peptide, so there is no peptide bond for water to cleave. A dry nucleoside is still a hygroscopic solid. Leave the container sealed, open the parcel the day it arrives, and do not leave it in a vehicle, an outdoor box, or on a loading dock. Move the closed container into controlled storage and follow the temperature on the product note. Do not heat a very cold container to speed equilibration. A change in the appearance of the solid after a winter parcel is not an identity test. The receiving note is peptide storage for Canadian laboratories, used here as the parcel practice, not as a claim that AICAR is a peptide. This page does not list a solvent volume.

Paid orders ship on Canada Post Xpresspost inside Canada after Interac e-Transfer. The public desk is 4309 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC. The label sender is a Port Moody, B.C. PO Box for the carrier account. Put the order number in the Interac message field so the payment can be matched to the emailed invoice. Tracking is emailed after a scan, typically within one business day of payment. Canada Post does not operate on weekends or statutory holidays, so a Friday payment can sit until the next operating day. Estimates are not guarantees. Those facts are restated on the shipping FAQ and the payment FAQ. The procurement note is Canada laboratory procurement. The shop URL is AICAR 50mg.

A research-use-only container is not a clinical-trial drug product and it does not carry a Drug Identification Number. The distinction is on the catalog-versus-trial FAQ. What the research-use-only phrase does and does not do, including the point that the phrase is not by itself a Health Canada authorization, is on the research-use-only FAQ. This page is not legal advice. Domestic Xpresspost keeps the parcel on a Canadian carrier. It does not remove research-use-only limits, and it does not make a catalog solid into an authorized drug.

MOTS-c and SS-31 keep their own library rows and their own research notes. Do not attach those PDFs to an AICAR receiving log. The absence of a residue string is the first line of the log, not a blank to be filled later.

The category index that currently lists this material is the mitochondrial category. The category name groups purchasing. It does not convert a nucleoside into a peptide, and it does not create a Drug Identification Number.

Frequently asked questions

Is AICAR a peptide?

No. AICAR is 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleoside, a nucleoside. It has no amino-acid sequence. The mitochondrial glossary files it beside peptide reagents because laboratories order it on the same route. The chemistry is different.

What did the 1995 hepatocyte paper report?

Corton and colleagues reported that AICAR accumulated as ZMP in rat hepatocytes and that ZMP mimicked AMP at AMP-activated protein kinase in that cell system. Those are the authors' measurements. They are not a specification on the 50 mg catalog fill.

Does the AICAR listing share a Certificate of Analysis with MOTS-c or SS-31?

No. Those are peptides with their own notes and their own library rows. An AICAR file documents the nucleoside lot only.

How should a laboratory store the AICAR vial?

Keep the container sealed, out of a vehicle and off a loading dock, and follow the product note. This page does not list a solvent volume.

Research-use only. BlueNex Labs does not provide medical or veterinary advice. Confirm your institution’s policies before purchase.
